I was the worst most angry unreliable courier. Haha. But man was I in shape. I ‘lost’ an package once because the place didn’t have a receptionist but DID have free M&Ms. I was too busy eating candy to actually put the item in my bag. Haha. Rode around in the rain for an hour trying to find it.

when I was young our house got hit by lightning – the house was smoking and all I had to say was “wow look at those cool fire trucks!” oh and that photo – that’s just a little something I wear around the house.

Today some old woman kissed my manifest and said it smelled good…

8. What’s your favorite memory from a past championship?

Blazer, perkins and I went to a bar for about 6 hours in Guatemala – we each had dinner and 11 drinks a piece. It cost like 20$ per person. After we went to a trivia night at an irish bar [yeah in Guatemala] – the host threatened to break a bottle over my head…I said ‘do it! Fucking do it!’ he didn’t. we ended up leaving with a 6-pack courtesy of the bar. GUATEMALA!

Bones. Or corey the courier never the worrier – well he could probly win if he wanted but of course he doesn’t want to.

Living in Santa Cruz (in other words, slice of paradise just south of SF). Selling bikes all day at a bike shop, which basically means talking about bikes instead of riding. I worked as a courier in Chicago before moving out west, I’d move back if you guys replaced the suburbs with mountains.

Freewheels are dangerous for messengers, they encourage falling asleep on the bike when you’re hung over. True story.

7. Most Interesting Experience Messengering:

20 lbs of makeup addressed to Oprah Winfrey at Harpo studios.

Delivering a bunch of Tony’s route when his kid was born.
Watching a ginormous fucking monster fish by the Lake street bridge.

8. Favorite Memory from a Championship :

The quantity of Lagunitas Undercover Investigation Shutdown Ale at the 2007 NACCCs. Kinda gets in the way of the other memories.

9. My pick to win :

Hopin’ for a Chicagoan, a Californian and a Swiss on the podium.

10. How many couriers do you have?

5-10. Clutch Couriers and PedEx. No BMA but one spot’s worker owned, one spot’s owned by a rider/dispatcher.

11. Do you have any complaints about your work environment?

Well, since I don’t courier anymore I have to do alot more nice-nice customer service. In fact that’s almost all I do.

12. Favorite thing about the job :

Seeing ridiculous unexpected shit everyday, and riding all the time, knowing the flow of each street. Miss it.

There are a ton of you in town already and we’re so excited to see you. Thanks to everyone who made it out to Bangers and Lace last night for killer beer deals and the raffle for a custom wheelset by Tati. Apparently $3 cans of Ska Brewing does not last past 10pm with this crowd. Congrats to raffle winner Megan Twibell! See you all around Chicago this week.

I once went the wrong way in a building and found myself in a large ”office” with deep mahogany wood and antiques everywhere, a circular bed, what appeared to be shrunken heads on the mantle of a fireplace and a guy who looked like Ozzy Ozborne who had the hottest assistant.
I wish I had my resume with me that day.

8. What’s your favorite memory from a past championship?

I haven’t been to any yet but I got knocked out in a crash at MASSACRITERIUM in Montreal this year, that was wild!

Perhaps 80 bike messengers? The Toronto BMA (TOBMA) has fizzled as far as I can tell. The Toronto Courier Local 104 is currently (struggling to) certify a few companies in the city. (Solidarity, you fuckers!)
